!Common mistakes 3

✗ He continued to worked.

✓ He continued to work.

After to in an infinitive, the verb stays in its base form, whatever the tense of the sentence.

Infinitive में to के बाद verb अपने base form में रहती है, चाहे वाक्य किसी भी काल का हो।

✗ She continues her studies since 2020.

✓ She has been continuing her studies since 2020.

Since names the starting point of an action that goes on up to now, so a perfect tense is needed, not the simple present.

'Since' उस क्रिया का आरंभ-बिंदु बताता है जो अब तक चल रही है, इसलिए यहाँ simple present नहीं, perfect tense चाहिए।

✗ The rain continued for to fall.

✓ The rain continued to fall.

Students mix Hindi 'girne ke liye' into English; the infinitive to fall is complete without for.

विद्यार्थी हिंदी के 'गिरने के लिए' को अंग्रेज़ी में मिला देते हैं; 'to fall' बिना for के पूर्ण है।
