An estuary is a wide funnel-shaped river mouth where fresh water and salt water mix; it forms where tides are strong and carry silt away (the Narmada and Tapi). A delta is a triangle of land made of silt at a river mouth, where the river divides into many channels (the Ganga, Godavari, Krishna, Kaveri).
