§Grammar and usage
An adjective used before a noun, as in 'a big house', is attributive, while one used after a linking verb, as in 'The house is big', is predicative.
Noun से पहले आने वाला adjective, जैसे 'a big house', attributive कहलाता है, जबकि linking verb के बाद आने वाला, जैसे 'The house is big', predicative कहलाता है।
Some adjectives such as afraid, alive, asleep and alone are used only predicatively, so we say 'The child is asleep', not 'an asleep child'.
Afraid, alive, asleep और alone जैसे कुछ adjectives केवल predicative रूप में आते हैं, इसलिए 'The child is asleep' सही है, 'an asleep child' नहीं।
