?Which word?
pupil or student?
In British English a pupil is a child at school and a student is a person at college or university; in Indian and American English student covers both. Pupil is also used for a person taught individually by a master ('a pupil of Ravi Shankar'). The pupil of the eye is a separate sense, from the Latin for 'little doll', because you see a tiny reflection of yourself in it.
Homonym, asked very often: pupil (a learner) and pupil (of the eye) share spelling and sound.
