§Structures (grammar patterns) 4

Admittedly, + clause

At the start of a sentence, admittedly shows that you accept a point that may weaken your argument. A comma follows it.

वाक्य की शुरुआत में 'admittedly' दिखाता है कि आप ऐसा बिंदु स्वीकार करते हैं जो आपके तर्क को कमज़ोर कर सकता है। उसके बाद comma लगता है।

  • Admittedly, the fee is high, but the teachers are excellent.
  • Admittedly, I made some mistakes, but I learnt from them.

clause + admittedly + clause

Admittedly can also stand in the middle of a sentence, between commas, or before the part being granted.

'Admittedly' वाक्य के बीच में, commas के बीच, या स्वीकार किए जा रहे भाग से पहले भी आ सकता है।

  • The film was, admittedly, a little long, but it kept us interested.

admittedly + but / yet / still

Admittedly is often followed by a contrast with but, yet or still, which gives the speaker's real opinion.

'Admittedly' के बाद प्रायः but, yet या still से विरोध आता है, जो वक्ता की असली राय बताता है।

  • Admittedly, it is expensive; still, it will last for years.

admittedly vs admission

Admittedly is an adverb for a concession in argument. An admission is a noun for a statement of the truth. They share a root but are used differently.

'Admittedly' तर्क में रियायत के लिए adverb है। 'Admission' सच बताने वाले कथन के लिए noun है। दोनों की जड़ एक है पर प्रयोग अलग है।

  • His admission was honest; admittedly, it came late.
