General knowledge

Science GK, asked very often: an atom has a nucleus (containing protons, positively charged, and neutrons, with no charge) and electrons (negatively charged) moving around it; JJ Thomson discovered the electron, Ernest Rutherford the nucleus, and James Chadwick the neutron; John Dalton gave the atomic theory; Maharishi Kanad (ancient India) gave the idea of 'parmanu'; the atomic number is the number of protons.

The Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC, Mumbai) is named after Homi J Bhabha, the father of India's nuclear programme.
