General knowledge

Science: in a longitudinal wave (like sound), particles vibrate in the same direction as the wave moves; in a transverse wave (like light or ripples on water), particles vibrate at right angles.

Geography: lines of longitude run north–south and measure position east or west of Greenwich (0°); lines of latitude run east–west and measure position north or south of the equator.
