In Indian universities the teaching ranks rise from assistant professor to associate professor to professor; the head of a department or college is a principal, dean or head; the head of the university is the vice-chancellor. A reader was the old name for associate professor. A lecturer teaches at a college; a teacher at a school; a tutor teaches privately.
