§Grammar and usage

Scarcely has a negative meaning, so do not add not ('I can scarcely see', not 'can't scarcely'); 'Scarcely ... when' (not 'than'), with inversion at the start ('Scarcely had I reached the station when the train left'); the same pattern is used with hardly ('Hardly had ... when'); but 'No sooner ... than'.

यह बहुत पूछा जाता है: scarcely का अर्थ नकारात्मक है, इसलिए not न जोड़ें ('I can scarcely see', 'can't scarcely' नहीं); 'Scarcely ... when' ('than' नहीं), आरंभ में inversion के साथ ('Scarcely had I reached the station when the train left'); यही pattern hardly के साथ है ('Hardly had ... when'); पर 'No sooner ... than'।

The adjective scarce means not enough ('Water is scarce in summer').

Adjective scarce का अर्थ पर्याप्त नहीं, दुर्लभ है ('Water is scarce in summer')।
