◇Word family
≈Synonyms and antonyms
?Which word?

drop, fall and decline

Drop can be deliberate or accidental and is often sudden: 'drop a glass', 'prices dropped'. Fall is what happens to a thing on its own: 'the glass fell', 'prices fell'. Decline is a gradual fall: 'a steady decline in sales'. You drop something (transitive) but you cannot 'fall' something; 'he fell the glass' is wrong.

Drop जानबूझकर या गलती से हो सकता है और प्रायः अचानक: 'drop a glass', 'prices dropped'। Fall वह है जो चीज़ के साथ अपने आप हो: 'the glass fell', 'prices fell'। Decline धीमी गिरावट है: 'a steady decline in sales'। आप कुछ drop करते हैं (transitive) पर कुछ 'fall' नहीं कर सकते; 'he fell the glass' गलत है।

§Grammar and usage

Drop sth (transitive) versus fall (intransitive).

Drop एक transitive verb है, यानी इसके बाद object आता है, जैसे 'drop a glass' (गिलास गिरा देना)। Fall intransitive है और बिना object के आता है, जैसे 'the glass fell' (गिलास अपने-आप गिर गया)।
